Health Updates & Cricket For Change

US Consul General Lahore recently partnered with SAF for ten camps across Punjab to empower underserved communities through sports-related activities, promoting a positive message. Simultaneously this helps develop skills and knowledge linked to leadership, teamwork, healthy lifestyle, resilience, community service, time management, career, and financial planning. The medium used was cricket, which is a good platform for promoting personal and community-related development in Pakistan. A five-day training camp was designed for students whereby they were trained on cricketing and life skills by qualified and professional trainers.

Mother & Child Mobile Health Units

The health of women and children is a cornerstone for building healthy and stable societies around the world. Yet after decades of steady growth, development assistance for reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health is still stagnant especially in developing countries. Compromised access to maternal health facilities in Pakistan contribute to the increased prevalence of maternal mortality. The most important barriers to maternal health are transportation barriers to health facilities, economic factors, and cultural beliefs, in addition to lack of family support and poor quality of care.

As part of SAF’s efforts in order to fill this void, we launched Mother and Child Mobile Health Unit to improve access to healthcare services to low-income and hard-to-reach residents in Chakwal and adjoining areas of Balkasar covering 100 KM, approximately 300 villages in the radius, on preselected days of the week.

Expanding our network, we launched another Mobile Health Unit for the women and children of Quetta and Mastung in Balochistan. The unit is staffed by a combination of physicians and nurses delivering access to free, quality healthcare for the communities. The women and children living in the areas are being provided with free of cost quality healthcare services including maternal care, neonatal care, eye care, pathological tests and ultrasound facilities at their doorsteps. Master Motors and Foton Master Motors partnered with us to strengthen the facility and help us power the first SAF Mobile Health Unit currently operational in Balochistan, while Ismail Industries donated the second Mobile Health Unit which is operational and providing care in Punjab.

MOTHER & CHILD HEALTH PROMOTION CENTRE (MCHPC)

Poor access to education & health care services serves as primary factors impairing women’s health development, leaving it undervalued and neglected. To improve maternal health care conditions & to offer access to skilled health care professionals, SAF has launched ‘Mother and Child Health Promotion Centre’ in collaboration with ‘Pahchaan’. The initiative started providing free-of-cost facilities from June 01, 2019, onwards. Under this project, patients receive maternal & neonatal services with routine check-ups & free-of-cost medication. Along with maternal health care, patients are also facilitated with regards to personal hygiene, mental health, and family planning/counseling.
